Artist Interview - Hondo

Updated: Feb 22

Say hello to one of VxV’s newest artists: Hondo! We sat down with him to discuss his inspirations, his musical journey, and his plans for the future.

A Pennsylvania native, Hondo is a verified Spotify artist and rapper who emphasizes that his music is 100% original - all ideas and lyrics are his own true creations with little inspiration from outside sources. He does relate his stage presence to that of David Ruffin of The Temptations.

His musical journey is a unique one that not many people get to tell. It all began in 2015 - when he left America to play football in Japan for a time. While there he had a lot of free time to do whatever he desired, and Hondo decided to start writing music in between playing. Fast forward to 2020 and he began taking his music career much more seriously. As he puts it, “One day I hopped in the booth and it was fun, and I just took it from there.” Hondo is now getting ready to release those songs from Japan, as well as an entire second album.

Despite being with VxV for just one month, he already has multiple things on the horizon to further his successes. His first album Star Power is available now for streaming, while his second album, Star Power 2, is coming soon. Star Power 2 has more songs and a different vibe. The first was just an introduction to who Hondo is. A large focus right now is on marketing for the next 2-3 months. The development of a marketing plan will push these releases on streaming platforms and social media. Hondo is also planning on creating a music video potentially and has been in touch with multiple producers.

“I feel like I’m on the rise - I’m on the come up”

When asked about his long term goals, Hondo truly wants to just be able to live off of his music. “I want to be able to pay off my bills with my music. I want to make six figures. Anything extra [Coachella, festivals] is just an added bonus.” For him, making a living doing what he loves is enough. Some people dream of moving to Cali but if Hondo can live his dream from Pennsylvania then that’s what he is going to do.

A final note from our interview was a piece of advice he would give to aspiring artists - “Spend your money wisely.”
